The new headquarters is self-sustainable in water and energy. The entire building operates through the generation of solar energy, cleansing of rainwater and treatment of sewage residue.
We pursued the Leed Platinum certification with the highest score obtained in the whole of Latin America, as well as the Saint Gobain prize in the comfort category. At the moment, RAC’s headquarters stands out in the neighborhood’s landscape, as a new icon of technology and innovation within the complex concept that is, sustainability.
Zero WaterNet is a compound of systems, equipment, and solutions in engineering that allow a building to operate providing water to its occupants with quality, and also treat all its wastewater in a way so that it does not harm the local environment. The result of this is the independence of its supply from the public provider, obtaining water self-sufficiency.
Utilization of rainwater and its purification for toilet faucets
Treatment and reuse of grey and dark waters from the building for non-drinking uses, such as the supply of toilet bowls, discharge, and irrigation
In RAC’s headquarters, the quality of water is in accordance to the Ministry of Health’s 2914 Decree for water, which sets standards for drinking-water, and the CONAMA 357 Class I for reused water
The use of efficient metals and porcelain, of reduced water flow, as well as intelligent regulations, which reduce the demand for water and the volume of effluents produced by the building
The improved Water Reuse System treats 100% of the effluents generated. They are treated in reactors, such as natural ones (wetland), being filtered and stored in a specific reservoir for the reuse of discharges
Finally, the Catchment of Rainwater is done in the main 5000 liter reservoir placed on the building terrace, where all collected water is stored - which is later treated, becomes drinking water and proper for the use in faucets and showers, being then sent to the proper superior reservoir
One of the pillars in RAC’s sustainable projects is clean energy. In the Zero Energy Buildings (ZEB), the total quantity of the used energy, annually, is approximately the same as the renewable energy produced on-site or acquired from other sources of renewable energy (off-site). Within this concept, the buildings are placed in 02 categories: net zero site energy and net zero source energy. In the first, the building is completely autonomous; in the second, the building does not generate all it consumes, but covers the deficit with energy from external renewable sources. In order to reach this stage, RAC’s headquarters has reached energy efficiency, using the so-called architectonic intelligence and bioclimatic architecture which foresees the reduction of artificial lighting and the necessity of climatization systems.
